Our Leadership Team

Richard Barton

President/CEO

Rich began his career in oilseed processing in November 1981 after completing a BS and Master of Engineering in Agricultural Engineering from Texas A&M University. His first 13 years were with Bunge, AGP and Central Soya at seven locations throughout the United States. His responsibilities ranged from plant engineer in the beginning to extraction/elevator superintendent at the end with roles in corporate project/process engineering in between. In September 1994 Rich started with NHM, first as its primary engineer, and since September 2001 as its Owner and President. With NHM Rich develops new technologies and new partner relationships, leads marketing activities, and manages the company.

Rich has been an active member of AOCS since 1995, holding positions as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-Chair and Chair in the Processing Division. He has created “Hot Topic” sessions, chaired Divisional sessions and presented numerous times over the years. He was a member of the now defunct Tri-States Oil Mill Superintendents Association (TSOMSA) and was its chair when it merged with the now defunct International Oil Mill Superintendent Association (IOMSA), where he also served in various leadership roles. Rich has been on the NFPA 36 Technical committee since 1997, acting as Chair for ten years.

Rich volunteers his time with the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and the USDA program Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA). These opportunities have allowed Rich to travel to Mozambique, Madagascar, Bangladesh, Turkey, Nepal, Dubai, and Algeria teaching the fundamentals of soy crushing to the local teams. Beginning in 1996, Rich continues to present at the extraction short course which was hosted by the Food Process Engineering Department at Texas A&M and now is sponsored by one of its former researchers.
